(Crossfit Boston post here.)
Warmup:
- 45 Burpees
WOD: "Diane"
- Complete reps of 21-15-9
- Deadlift, 225 pounds
- Handstand Push-ups
My Time: 26:38 mins
Just for perspective I believe someone did it RX'd in about 4 mins at the 6 or 7am class
It's all about the handstand pushups. Consistancy and having unbroken sets. I did it almost RX'd but didn't get complete depth on the HSPU's (head to floor) so I can't exactly say I did it RX'd but it was close. Considering I used 3 abmats under my head last time this was a huge improvement.
How does one determine if they can attempt this many HSPU's? The strict overhead press. I know I can strict press my body weight overhead for 5x5 (I did it last saturday for my workout) it was hard and I had lots of rest but it was a great indicator for me that I was stronger than before and I had the strength to complete this WOD. But I didn't figure on my wrists being the "X" factor. After the first set (21 reps) They were in rough shape. I could only get out 2 at a time before I had to rest them them. This lead me to try different hand positionings during the WOD (not a good idea BTW).
This is why we practice the skill work outside the WOD. So we know the optimal position we will need to take. I wasn't too tired after the WOD but most likely that was because I kept having to break up my HSPU's, but I know I worked hard for each rep and I feel it today.
Now I know what I need to work on. It's enlightening to say the least.

My w/o was modified as i did dumb bell thrusters @ 15lbs. My DL was 100lbs. The total time to complete for me was 12:10. Thanks for all of the pointers Rich they really help:)
